"Cancer Networking"

These days there are a lot of associations and networks that you can belong to. There are professional associations, charity organizations, sports & recreation groups, etc. And don’t even get me started on the number of social networking websites you could spend your days on! But I want to suggest a new concept for some of us to consider, it’s called “Cancer Networking.”

Have you ever noticed how fellow cancer survivors and patients interact with each other? We will go far out of our way to help a fellow cancer contact without even thinking about it. Most of the time we never even met them. Why is that?

It’s because of the level of suffering that most of us go through to get into this club. No one is here by choice, but we’ve all adapted and overcome. Some stay in this cancer network for a shorter time than others, but their contributions and devotions shall be deeply cherished.

Stop and think about the potential our “Cancer Network” represents. We have members from every area of the world, every occupation imaginable, every race, every religion, every income level, every demographic, EVERY EVERYTHING! And given the bond we share, we are very lucky people indeed. We are a formidable group.

I think over time, places like Facebook, for example, will become a very powerful meeting place for cancer patients all over the world. It’s not that there aren’t already millions of cancer peeps on there already…there are. But I think we’re just not quite harnessing the potential yet of our combined cooperation.

So I am suggesting to you that if we’re going to spend so much time online sending out “friend requests,” shouldn’t we spend the majority of that time building our cancer network?

That’s why I started this new group on Facebook. Please check it out. Everyone is welcome and together we will lessen our individual loads.
